Southland sheep and beef farmer Geoffrey Young has toppled sitting Beef+Lamb director and current chair Andrew Morrison, to be elected to the Beef and Lamb New Zealand board (B+LNZ).

Young received 8,777 weighted votes to Morrison's 6,787 in the B+LNZ Southern South Island election held on 22 March.

The southern electorate covers Southland and the Clutha District.

There was a 36% turnout.

Young was also a candidate the Southland District mayor elections held in October last year.
