Spring has definitely meant new growth in northern Southland - especially when it comes to catchment groups.

Three new catchment groups have sprung up, based in Otama, Knapdale and Wendon.

Thriving Southland catchment coordinator Tania Clarke said all three groups have had their first meetings and are beginning to work out their respective priorities.

The Wendon Catchment Group held an event in October around gaining an understanding of how to assess on-farm stream health, with Justin Kitto (pictured) from DairyNZ and the Environment Southland Land Sustainability team on hand to chat about stream health.

The Otama group had a Greenhouse Gas Know your Number workshop early this month, which was very successful.

All three groups are planning Christmas community events.
