Upcoming road works on Southland roads

Resurfacing and construction taking place across the Southland network.


Below are the areas of state highways in Southland where there are likely to be work or events happening next week and where you may experience delays to your journeys. 



Highways South work with traffic management in place (all with temporary speed limits):

• SH1 Bluff highway near Greenhills, temporary traffic lights and temporary speed limit for pavement repairs

• SH1 Edendale Woodlands highway between Downs Road and St Ronan’s Road, temporary traffic lights and temporary speed limit for drainage work

• SH1 Pioneer highway at the intersection of SH96 Glencoe highway, temporary traffic lights and temporary speed limit for asphalt resurfacing (restricted access onto SH96 Glencoe highway; when crew onsite – use Glendhu/Paterson/Waimumu Roads)

• SH6 Lumsden-Dipton highway at Caroline – traffic lights and temporary speed limit for earthworks and road reconstruction (until early February)

• SH94 Lumsden-Riversdale highway near Lintley, temporary traffic lights and temporary speed limit for road reconstruction (until end of January)

• SH96 Winton-Wreys Bush highway at the intersection of Wreys Bush-Mossburn Road, temporary traffic lights and temporary speed limit for asphalt resurfacing (restricted access onto Wreys Bush-Mossburn Road; when crew onsite – Sinclair/Nightcaps-Opio Roads) *nightworks programmed for 21/22 January

• SH99 Riverton-Wallacetown highway at the intersection of Gropers Bush-Thornbury Road, temporary traffic lights and temporary speed limit for asphalt resurfacing (restricted access onto Gropers Bush-Thornbury Road; when crew onsite – use Thornbury-Waimatuku Road)

• SH99 Riverton-Wallacetown highway at the intersection of Argyle-Otahuti Road, temporary traffic lights and temporary speed limit for asphalt resurfacing (restricted access onto Argyle-Otahuti Road; when crew onsite – use Oporo Flat Road/Waianawa-Oporo Road)

• SH99 Orepuki Riverton highway at Longwood Road, temporary traffic lights and temporary speed limit for pavement repairs



Third party work with traffic management in place this week (all with temporary speed limits):

• SH6 Dee St, lane closures for lights removal nightwork Tues 16th January only

• SH96 Nightcaps, stop/go for watermains work

• SH99 Orepuki-Riverton highway at Round Hill, stop/go for pole removal



Programmed work in first few weeks of the new year:

• Mid-January – SH94 Te Anau-Mossburn highway near Mossburn – traffic lights and temporary speed limit in place for earthworks with road reconstruction to follow in February

• Late January – SH96 Winton-Wreys Bush highway near Transmission Line Road - traffic lights and temporary speed limit in place for earthworks and reconstruction (until mid March)

• Early February – SH94 Mossburn-Lumsden near Dipton-Castlerock intersection - traffic lights and temporary speed limit in place for road reconstruction (until late February)



Upcoming events:

• 27/28 January – Crack Up Day, Edendale

• 6-10 February – Burt Munro Challenge

• 14-16 February – Waimumu Field Days


Please ensure crews return home safely each night by observing the posted temporary speed limits and traffic management and driving with care through worksites.
