Southland's 2021 business excellence awards evening is finally set to go ahead tomorrow night (27 January), with just 100 of the 600 ticket holders now allowed to attend due to Covid Red rules.

Southland Business Chamber (SBC) events and marketing manager, Michelle McSoriley, said the revised evening would include just two representatives for each finalist along with sponsors and judges.

McSoriley said there was a lot of disappointed people that can't [now] turn up, so SBC would be livestreaming the event and was encouraging people to have watch parties.

Southland premier business event was originally intended for September last year, but had been moved five times in an attempt to hold the full evening under Covid rules.

The latest reschedule, in the face of the looming omicron threat, saw the event move from 18 February to 27 January.

Southland Business Chamber events and marketing manager Michelle McSoriley said they have been working frantically for the last 12 days.

She said the logistics of [catering for] 100 people was just the same as for 500.

Ticket holders [who were not allocated seats for tomorrow nights event] would get a full refund, she said.
