Invercargill City Council are tweaking their bylaws so they can be more flexibility with inner city parking, especially during the current construction process.

Don Street, between Dee and Kelvin streets, is also to temporarily become a P90 zone in order to take parking pressure off the central city. This will mean people will be able to park for free for up to 90 minutes in this area (excluding coned off areas).

There are also plans afoot to install new, upgraded parking meters, with a paperless pay-by-plate system by December.

Invercargill council is planning to consult with retailers, businesses and the public to make sure that everyone is ready to use the new technology. The new system will see payments no only by cash, but also paywave or online.
