Two lucky kids and their guardians will get the chance to win a five-night expedition into remote Fiordland by submitting a creative video that demonstrates passion for their own back yard.
Fiordland based adventure charter company Pure Salt is offering the prize to inspire kids to look after the place they call home and to raise awareness of the Tamatea Dusky Sound Restoration Project.
The vision is for Tamatea/Dusky Sound to be one of the most intact ecosystems on Earth, and New Zealand's largest ‘bio bank’ – a source of endangered native species that can be sent to pest free locations throughout the country.
“It's a big vision and it will need the next generation to be just as passionate about it as we are,” Pure Salt Ltd co-owner Maria Kuster said.
The winners will be flown by helicopter to Dusky Sound on the 14th September 2020 to join ‘Expedition Fiordland’ a LEARNZ field trip, supported by DOC and Pure Salt.
During their time aboard Flightless they will be taking a close look at the unique ecosystem of the Fiords and the role of the Tamatea/Dusky Sound Restoration Project. The whole adventure and learnings will be captured and collated by LEANZ and offered into classrooms as a virtual field trip for term 3.
To be in to win, children aged 10-16 have the month of July to produce a 1-minute video focusing on local ecosystems and post it on to Instagram, with the winner being announced in August.
Entry details can be found on the Pure Salt website, terms and conditions apply.
