Residents and visitors to Riverton and being asked for their thoughts on the area’s green spaces and places, with a view to plan for the town’s future.

The Oraka Aparima Community Board say Riverton is experiencing growth, and the board needs to understand how the town can grow, while enhancing its existing open spaces.

The board wants to understand community views on connecting these spaces with streets, pedestrian and cycle accessways in a safe and attractive way.

The community board says they would like to hear from people about what they consider are the community values so it can help to inform future projects and considerations within the Southland District Council Long Term Plan.

The focus of the survey is on parks, reserves, sports fields, trails, streets and the commercial vitality of Riverton’s main street.

Council’s open spaces graduate planner Bridget Elliott say early insights from interviews out in the community have highlighted that Riverton Aparima has an abundance of valued open spaces.

“We need to assess how these places are connected and accessed as well as looking at the area in a broader sense,” she says.

Hard copies of the survey and dropoff boxes are located at Te Hikoi Museum, Taramea Store, Riverton Supervalue and the Riverton Senior Citizens.

Feedback from the survey will feed into future planning for the area and the reserve management plans for Taramea Bay.

Submissions close at 5pm on 26 April 2022.
