In close to perfect conditions marathon runner Daniel Jones has made it 4 out of 4, taking out the 2021 (held on 15th January, 2022) 60km Kepler Challenge in a time of 4hrs, 37 minutes and 37 seconds, just over 11 minutes slower than when the event was last held, in 2019.
Second was Tauranga's David Haunschmidt with a time of 4:56:38, followed by NZ mountain running champion Andy Good (5:05:24).
The first woman athletic home was kiwi ultra-runner Ruth Croft in a time of 5 hours, 26 minutes and 29 seconds.
Second was NZ mountain running champion Nancy Jiang with a time of 5:53:12, followed by marathon runner Katie Morgan (6:06:44).
The shorter 27km Luxmore Grunt event, well known for its steep climb to Luxmore Hut was won this year by Daniel Balchin in a time of 1 hour, 48 minutes and 49 seconds.
Second home was Jonathan Jackson with a time of 1:51:15, followed by Te Anau local Richard Ford (2:00:11).
Caitlin Fielder was the Luxmore Grunt's first woman home in a time of 2 hours, 7 minutes and 25 seconds.
Second was Sarah Douglas with a time of 2:16:07, followed by Fiona Love (2:20:22).
