Hedgehope School is a fabulously modern and truly up to date, future focused environment bursting with resources and wonder.

Our student whanau are curious, dazzled and hugely appreciative of the new spaces and resources that the BOT and PTA have tirelessly supported.

Student efficacy and agency gives powerful voices to students to lead their own interests for learning.

This year our overarching theme is Curiosity, students have their own passions, big questions and timelines.

Hedgehope’s Forest School involves a weekly adventure in the local bush.

Students have been out and about being adventurous in Southland, talking with experts and local businesses. 

We have 2 classes of 24 students currently that all love to learn! 

We all REACH for Greatness in everything we do!

This year we have had the pleasure of collaborating with Christina and The Microplastics team, for study of the Dunsdale and The Makarewa River. Hedgehope School was nominated for students' dedication and interest in the environment at the recent Environment Southland Community Awards, receiving $150 of Milligans Seeds from Diacks so our veggie garden is well underway with this warm sunny spring.

Hedgehope School would like to congratulate Christina and The SIT Microplastics team for winning the Environmental Action in Education category ESCA 2021 and for also being nominated as NZ Women of Influence 2021.

We have found another bonus of being a small U1 school, Pet Day could still continue this year and our lovely parents attended.

The whole school enjoyed a jam packed adventure week early this Term at Borland Lodge as they REACHed for Greatness, with a particular foci on being adventurous and pushing themselves.

It was a special week of learning about self and team work.

Students enjoyed rock climbing, abseiling, kayaking, caving, tramping, swimming, building dens, archery, horizontal bungy and evening team sport challenges.

Our Rallies chefs and senior students even pre-made the meals so life was easy on the student roster.



We may be a small school but we are incredibly proud of our highly successful learning and shifts the students are making.

We have a huge heart and students are full to bursting with curiosity.
