Celebrating Southland Schools
24 February 2021, 10:00 PM
Kia ora and welcome to Hauroko Valley Primary School in class action where we have been… explorers, pickleball players, surfers, golfers, triathletes, walkers, swimmers, artists, thinkers and learners!
Haere mai - we extend a warm welcome to Kylie, Lauren, Neilina and their families who join our Hauroko Valley School whanau.
Term 1 sees our learners training daily for athletics in preparation for inter school competitions.
We’ve spent time with Harold and Teresa in the amazing Life Education Bus focusing on Human Biology with sessions on body care and physical safety.
Our students have been preparing their mihi, sharing connections to whanau and whenua.
As part of our teaching and learning programmes we are enquiring into Our Turangawaewae/Our Place.
We are planning an adventure to immerse ourselves in local and special places of importance to our tamariki as a way to strengthen local connections and curriculum.
We are investigating ways to diversify our school grounds to create spaces for play to build on from our loose parts shed.
Mini projects are in the pipeline including swedes, flower gardens and adding value to our playground spaces encouraging creative and collaborative conversations.
Discovery Time is a feature of our Year 1-3 programme and provides an opportunity for 4 year olds to support transition to school.
HVP Clubs for our Years 4-8 is back with a variety of new experiences on offer including Art, Pickleball, Cricket, Crafts, Cooking, Health & Beauty, Nature/Walking and Golf.
Twenty students in Years 4-8 formed H.V.P’s swimming squad competing in the Western Southland Swimming Championships.
Thanks to Riverton Primary School for hosting our cluster’s annual event.
A highlight for us was the Year 7&8 relay where we joined forces with Takitimu Primary School to secure the Western Southland Year 7&8 Shield.
There are seven HVP teams in Years 1-8 entered in the Western Southland Touch Competition held at Otautau’s Holt Park.
Thanks to our parent helpers providing coaching/manager expertise.
This Term we have weekly sessions throughout Years 1-8 to develop our skills in Golf.
Thanks to Golf Southland for providing us with this opportunity to learn a new sport.
Our Home and School team have been prepping for The Blackmount Trail Ride to be held on Saturday 13th March 2021.
This is huge on our calendar as it’s Hauroko Valley Primary School’s major fundraiser.
All funds go directly to support our students.
We have trails for fun, adventure and challenge all set amongst a variety of terrain with superb scenery at the base of the Takitimu Mountains.
Local fresh produce has been sourced for lunch, a canteen is on site and great coffee.
The David Gray Memorial Hill Climb kicks off at 3.00pm; please join us for a great family day out!
For further information check out “Blackmount Trail Ride” via Facebook.
If you would like to follow our learning journey please join us at Hauroko Valley Primary School on Facebook or check out our website - www.haurokovalley.school.nz.
