CLASS ACTION: Hauroko Valley School

Kia ora and welcome to Hauroko Valley Primary School in class action where we have been… discoverers, campers, thinkers, and learners!

Throughout Term 4 we’ve engaged in learning within a variety of contexts through Education Outside of the Classroom.

These opportunities enable our tamariki to explore beyond the classroom walls with learning taking place everywhere.

It’s through these experiences that our children are provided with multiple connections to the environment and people through their interactions and engagement

Memories are made, knowledge is acquired and a depth and breadth of actively involved, confident and connected life long learners continue to grow.

Our Year 5&6 students have just returned from Camp in Central Otago.

This location change provided perfect weather conditions for our tamariki to explore the horticulture, history and tourism industries.

We spent a day in Arrowtown with Amanda aka Miss Grey from the Lakes District Museum.

She was an exceptional educator, entertaining and informative.

We were well equipped with knowledge and resources throughout the Museum, Chinese Settlement and all found gold while panning within the crisp Arrow River.

From our base in Bannockburn, Cromwell we explored Historic Cromwell including stable and barn.

Our students and parents spent a day on Lake Dunstan at McNulty Inlet with Cromwell College Aquatics Centre.

Our instructors James, Danny and Graham were patient, generous, humourous and skilled.

Team HVP developed paddle boarding, sailing and kayaking skills.

We have some future Lisa Carrington’s, Glenn Ashby or Peter Burlings!

Our final day was spent exploring Jackson’s Orchard following the Burkett Cherry through the orchard from the tree to production and then retail.

The depth of diversification within their orchard is just amazing.

The real fruit ice cream was an amazing treat.

Thanks to Jill, Shay and the team from Jackson’s Orchard for your outstanding hospitality.

We can’t wait to share the adventures of our Year 7&8 Hump Ridge Camp!

3 days and 61km of phenomenal flora and fauna and a first for our Hauroko Valley Primary School students.

Thanks to Alice Harris for bringing this idea to reality along with our team of parents.

To our parents that have assisted in practice tramps, baking menus and fundraising efforts - thank you!

Thanks to the Hump Ridge Track Trust for their support with sponsorship for our walk.

Thanks to Cedric from Hump Ridge Track for providing expert guidance and advice as part of our preparation.

A shout out to Dale Green - Heli My Way for supporting Hauroko Valley Primary School with transporting packs and food to huts.

Tumeke mahi team!

Hauroko Valley School is strong with “Ma tini, ma mano, ke rapa te whai/Many hands make light work, Unity is strength.”

All the best for the festive season.

Nga mihi nui.
