Celebrating Southland Schools

CLASS ACTION: Hauroko Valley School

Kia ora and welcome to Hauroko Valley Primary School in Class Action where we have been -

orators, scientists, artists, discoverers, rippa rugby, netball & hockey players, hikers, gardeners…

Term 3 – wow, we’ve just completed our first full Term for 2020!

It has been fantastic to reconnect with each other and have valuable class time!

Our tamariki have participated in a variety of learning opportunities involving collaboration, connection, challenge and celebration!

Kowhai and Matai learners ventured to Te Anau to the Fiordland Wildlife Park and Department of Conservation as part of their Inquiry Learning into New Zealand’s Native Birds.

Our Year 1-3 children have been active discoverers each Thursday afternoon as part of our Discovery Programme.

Both classes have been hooked into code breaking as part of the latest School Kit project known as Little Gardens!

Poetry Recitals and Speeches have been a focus as our students have presented to audiences.

Congratulations to each of our children for preparing for the delivery of their poem or speech.

Speaking in front of an audience is always a challenge and we acknowledge your hard work and achievements.

Well done to Harry Blair-Edie, Summer and Lucas Templeton who qualified to represent Western at the Northern-Western Final.

Well done to Summer Templeton qualifying for the Year 5&6 Southland Speech Grand Final.

Check out the amazing t-shirt design by Baxter Erskine for the Miharo Polyfest, 2020.

His winning design features on this year’s t-shirts for the Murihiku Maori & Pasifika Polyfest.

Baxter’s stunning design represents the musical contributions made in waiata and dance when people join together for Miharo cultural celebrations.

Our students have been committed to regular training throughout Term 3 for Rippa Rugby under the guidance of experienced Coach Damon Templeton.

Several HVP students competed in the Invercargill Hockey Association Competition with a Year 3&4 team, Year 5&6 and Year 7&8 team.

Several students from Otautau Primary School joined our Year 7&8 = together we are Western.

We are appreciative of our coaches, managers and supporters!

This year we have entered the Southland Festival of Netball Tournaments with a team in Year 5, Year 6 and Year 7&8.

It is amazing to see the skill development and positional play developing within players.

Thanks to coaches, managers and parent helpers supporting transport.

HVP staff are looking forward to their first challenge against the Year 7&8 students in netball!

Term 4 is just around the corner and the calendar is filling up fast!

We have a week of swimming at the Tuatapere Community Pool.

There is athletics training in preparation for our inter-school athletics with Waiau Area School.

Followed by the Annual Hauroko Valley Primary School Pet Day.

In Term 4 our Year 7&8’s will venture up Bald Hill and Lake Hauroko’s Lookout before tackling the Hump Ridge Track.

As Dr Seuss said “You’re off to Great Places.

Today is your day!

Your mountain is waiting. So….get on your way!”

Let’s do this Team HVP!
