Some of Manapouri and Te Anau's key assets are being upgraded in time for Christmas, thanks to $2.4million from the Tourism Infrastructure Fund (TIF).
The Southland District Council's (SDC) successful TIF application will see between 1.3 and 1.7 million spent in Manapouri on a new boat ramp, adjacent gabion wall and new jetty, upgrading the View Street carpark and sealing the Fraser Beach Road.
Existing toilets at Pearl Harbour and Frasers Beach will also be replaced along with an additional toilet installed opposite the old church on Waiau Street.
TIF funding is also being used to renew Te Anau's two public boat ramps and construct a new public toilet at the town's boat harbour.
The Manapouri projects are likely to take around 10-12 weeks to complete, a SDC statement said.
