Walk or cycle from the Fiordland National Park Visitor Centre, along Lake Te Anau's southern shoreline.
Pass the Te Anau Bird Sanctuary Walk/Cycle - Te Anau, through native bush and grassland to the lake's outlet which borders the Fiordland National Park.
The outlet is controlled by a hydro-electric gate.
From this point you can start the Kepler Track - Fiordland (hiking only), with takes you north past Dock Bay (1 hour) and Brod Bay (3 hours).
Alternatively continue south from this point (east side of Upper Waiau River) on the Lake2Lake Cycle Trail (19km) - Te Anau
