Wallacetown School Term 3 2021

Term 3 has started off with lots of excitement as we are looking forward to plenty of activities for this term.

It was great to be out on the gate on Monday morning and see everyone’s smiling faces as they arrived ready for the first day of Term 3!

We start each week off with Whānau Time.

This is a time we come together as a whole school at the start of every week to re-cap on the week before and to chat about what’s coming up for the week.

This term we welcomed Ms Miriam McKenzie who is teaching in Room 3, and Lisa Reynolds who is working as a Teacher Aide across the school.

At the end of last term, we farewelled Aaron, Bex and Megan.

Thank you to everyone who came along for the farewell assembly and stayed for the afternoon tea.

We welcomed Dylan Fearn to Room 3

The Olympics have been a big talking point, and we’ve been lucky to watch a few of the events together in Room 1.

A great opportunity to watch our athletes in action and watch a different array of sports!

The Olympic action has been inspirational and a big talking point at school.

We’ve been able to watch our athletes in action and share the excitement of seeing the New Zealand flag, hearing our anthem, and watching the medals being handed out.

This is a great lead into our own mini-Olympics on Friday 13th August.

Polyfest Art - Congratulations to the students, Whaea Nish and the teachers on their Polyfest Art piece which has won an award in the 2021 Miharo Art Exhibition.

It was an honour as a school to be invited to the Polyfest Art Awards and being awarded the Kaitiaki Award for our art piece Kei Waenganui I Ngā Awa.

Thanks to the students and families who could make it on the night and to Whaea Nish for the background work and leading this with our staff and students.

The feedback given to our art piece was ‘The judges recognize this artwork as the beginning of the school’s kaitiaki journey and a symbol of commitment to move  forward’

Our School Values-Be Responsible, Be Respectful and Be a Learner – what does ‘Be Responsible’ mean at Wallacetown School?

We define Be Responsible in a couple of different ways, being responsible, taking responsibility, acting responsibly, and having responsibilities.

These are all related to doing the things we are  supposed to do while accepting the positive and negative outcomes of our actions.

The Wallacetown Blues and the Wallacetown Wizards had their first taste of Futsal.

They are playing on Monday afternoons at Stadium Southland, and practicing at the Wallacetown Community Centre.

We are thankful to our Fundraising Group, as they have purchased us some new balls and kit bag.

 Elgregoe was amazing!

He always has a great show with important themes!

Waianiwa School came to the Community Centre to watch him with us.

Scholastic Book Week. – As part of the Book fair that we held over the week starting the 9th August, we also had Dress up as you favourite character.

We had some amazing costumes, and all the teachers took part as well!

A lot of fun.

As part of Book Fair – Mrs Pasco had a ‘Book Character Bingo’ game in Room 2 on Monday afternoon play!

Here are some of the cool costumes, and it was great to have the teachers and Children from Ko Taku Reo having fun in their dressups today as well!

Wallacetown School Mini Olympics 13 August 2021

Our Mini Olympics was an excellent way to end the week!

Well done to Italy who took out the Gold Medal.

It was great to see everyone giving the events a go and the awesome teamwork.

Thank you to Flynn and Ryder who were our torch bearers for the Opening Ceremony and Pandora who read out the Olympic Oath.

Then on 17 August the whole country had to go back to lockdown under  Level 4 Covid.

Wallacetown School quickly switched to home schooling, and are now looking forward to reopening, and seeing all the students here again under level 2 on Thursday 9 September 2021
