Celebrating Southland Schools

16 May 2021, 11:49 PM

CLASS ACTION: Tokanui School

On Wednesday Tokanui School went on a field trip to Slope Point.

These are some of the things Team Whero had to say about this day out:

I learnt to identify animals by their poop and their tracks - Jack.

I liked exploring the forest with Josh and seeing the hoof print of a deer - Jack.

I liked tasting all the different plants such as Broome and Manuka with Mr Esler - Callum.

I learnt about native birds and bats. New Zealand only has two species of bat - Rory.

I liked learning about the leaves and how they felt and looking at the native trees - Zekaia.

I liked drawing trees and bones and weeds - Josh.

We tried a weed that we called “nature's spinach” and it tasted like blood - Harry.

We found out that Blue Whales are the length of a rugby field and we got to see a whale rib.

Tokanui school would like to thank the staff from Environment Southland, LLoyd Esler, and Rodney from the Hokonui Runanga for making this such an interesting experience.
