Southern Institute of Technology (SIT), set to become independent in 2026, has announced the return of its Zero Fees Scheme to the Telford agricultural campus, making primary industry education more accessible.
SIT Operations Lead Amanda Whitaker emphasized the scheme’s importance for the region’s agricultural heritage and its alignment with government priorities.
“Zero Fees ensures more young people can train without financial barriers,” she said, highlighting SIT’s commitment to accessible learning through initiatives like HyFlex delivery and pastoral care.
Domestic students enrolling in full-time Telford courses in 2026 will benefit from Zero Fees.
Popular programs include the Certificate in Farming Systems and Equipment (Level 3) and the Massey Diploma in Agriculture (Level 5), which can lead to farm management roles.
Faculty Head Hamish Small called the announcement exciting, noting its impact on making Telford a national leader in vocational education.
Community stakeholders echoed the sentiment, praising the move for opening doors to farming careers and strengthening the region’s agricultural future.
Linda Moore, CE of Clutha Development, said the news was a boost for the district:
“Telford is a community asset. This allows us to grow our sector and embrace the future with confidence.”
