New Zealand's own WWE superstar Travis Banks, aka 'The Kiwi Buzzsaw' says the wrestling talent on offer in the country right now is as big as it's ever been.
Banks is back in the country to headline the Southern Pro Wrestling (SPW) stadium super show 'Southern Rumble' this Saturday night in at ILT Stadium Southland in Invercargill which will put New Zealand and Australia's best wrestlers head to head.
He said he is excited to be able to wrestle in front of his home fans for the first time in four years.
"It’s one of the best cards I’ve seen this side of the world. I couldn’t think of a better card to come and watch. If I was a fan I’d be like whoa I’ve got to go watch that show."
"I’ve been away for four years and when I left they had just started SPW. There wasn’t anything like this for professional wrestling in New Zealand. So to be away for four years and come back...it’s pretty cool. Cool for me anyway because it’s what I wanted from when I very first started. For wrestling to be really cool in New Zealand."
Banks is contracted to the WWE as part of their NXT UK arm which puts him regularly in front of over 3000 fans at events across the United Kingdom.
He was officially signed to the organisation last year, and said the moment he received the call saying he was signed up was a dream come true.
"I was at my hotel room with my parents and for some reason they made the call with my parents in the room and I put it on speaker and they were like you’re in the WWE and I looked at my mum and she burst into tears. It was the head of talent relations who is a big name as well. So it was awesome."
Banks will team up with TK Cooper as the 'South Pacific Power Trip' and compete for the SPW Tag Team Championship against current holders 'Deadly Sins' which feature JK Moody and Kane Khan.
The night will feature a variety of other matches, including a 20 man 'over the top rope' match as well as the main championship bout between Hooligan and Slex.
SPW promoter Troy Crosbie said the event was as big as they had ever hosted before and that the Trans-Tasman rivalry was an extra incentive to bring in crowds.
"Anyone gets the Australia New Zealand rivalry and it’s just going to be a fully entertaining night from go to finish."
Doors open for the event at 4pm with wrestling starting at 5pm.
Tickets are available on the SPW website.
