Police have released the name of the woman who died following a crash in which her vehicle went into the Oreti River on Thursday (28 July). 

She was 17-year-old Kaia Hamilton of Southland. 

The crash was reported to emergency services at around 11.30pm on Thursday night and Police divers located the woman's body from the submerged car at around 5pm on Friday (29 July).

The death has been referred to the Coroner and investigations into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing, Police said.
