The Southland App understands the driver has been taken to the Fiordland Medical Centre for medical attention.
The truck is currently wedged between the bridge and a cliff, around 15 metres above the Mararoa River, on the southern side.

Southland District Council advised that initial efforts to lift the crashed truck from beneath the Weir Road bridge, by a heavy crane, have been hampered due to unsuitable terrain.
The road and bridge will remain closed all this afternoon and will reopen tonight.
Tomorrow the efforts will continue and the bridge will be closed again until the truck can be safely removed.
Motorists are advised to choose an alternative route while recovery work is in progress.
