It is still snowing heavily on SH94 at the Gorge Hill with about 10-12 inches of snow settling.
Gorge Hill is passable, however road users must drive with caution.
The Te Anau side of the Gorge Hill is worse than the Mossburn side.
Once road users are over Gorge Hill in the direction of toward Mossburn, the weather is clearing up and they have a good run.
We have 3 ploughs and a grit truck onsite to try and keep the road open.
Please drive with caution and using good judgement.
Earlier this evening the contractor was working to recover stranded vehicles and clear snow, after snow and vehicles off the road brought State Highway 96, the Te Anau Mossburn road at Gorge Hill to a standstill (10 May).
A Snow plough was also deployed to escort all vehicles waiting.
West bound traffic was able to navigate themselves down Gorge Hill at 5.30pm however east bound travellers have reportedly waited for over 2-hours, with very little movement or direction from authorities.

Don McFarlane, from Te Anau, said he and his wife had been waiting at the bottom of the hill for over 2 hours.
At 8pm he said they had only seen one Police car and no ground staff, with nobody directing anything.
A Police spokesperson said while they had had a few calls, as well as pictures from the public about the snow, they hadn't had any reports of crashes.
