One person has died following a fatal crash on the Nightcaps Opio Road, north of State Highway 96 yesterday (21 Feb).

Emergency services responded at around 3pm to the two-vehicle collision..

One person has now died in hospital while another with serious injuries remains in Dunedin Hospital.

The Serious Crash Unit has attended and Police said inquiries into the circumstances of the crash were underway.
