Mike Douglass and Andrea Young both have been elected to the Southland District Council’s (SDC) Stewart Island/Rakiura community board after a by-election for the boards two vacant seats closed on Friday (17 Feb).

The by-election was held after insufficient nominations were received for three community boards at the 2022 triannual local body elections.

Other by-elections are also to be held in Ardlussa (1 vacancy) and Mid Dome subdivision of Northern (1 vacancy).

Final results for the Stewart Island/Rakiura community board were:
