A serious road accident incident has been reported to emergency services in Mataura on the corner of SH1 and Dacre Street. 

An emergency helicopter has been dispatched.

Police are currently attending the crash site where a car and truck have collided on the corner of Main Street (State Highway 1) and Dacre Street.

A St John Ambulance spokesman said one patient with serious injuries was being airlifted to Southland Hospital and two other patients were treated at the scene.

Emergency services were alerted to the crash just after 1pm today.

Cordons are in now in place and SH1 is closed at the intersection with Dacre Street. 

Police have asked motorists to avoid the area.
