Police have confirmed one person has died following a two-vehicle crash on the intersection of Dee Street and Avenal Street in Invercargill.

The crash occurred at 12.58pm.

Police are working to determine the circumstances of the crash.

Diversions were put in place on Dee Street and motorists were asked to avoid the area.

The road was reopened shortly after 3pm.
