Two children have been found safe and well, after being reported missing in the Mavora Lakes area at around 5.15pm last night (15 Jul).

At around 10am today (16 Jul) searchers located the 8-year-old boy and an 11-year-old girl, one-and-a-half kilometers from the campground in a clearing near the lake.

They have been transported back to the Search and Rescue base and are now being assessed by medical staff.

The children were reported missing after failing to return from a bush walk from the campground at the northern end of Mavora Lakes Road at 2.30pm.

A Search and Rescue operation was activated involving Police personnel, rescue helicopter, search dogs, and volunteers from Land Search and Rescue and Amateur Radio Emergency Communications.

Teams searched overnight and were augmented by a further 30 searchers this morning (16 July).
