Te Waipounamu Riders Against Domestic Abuse Trust Murihiku Southland Visit

Monday 18th November free BBQ 12.45 to 1.30pm, South City in the courtyard beside The Pantry.

Murihiku Southland is hosting fourteen, largely self funded, motorbike riders who are starting their awareness raising about the heartache caused by domestic abuse as they travel around Te Waipounamu, South Island.

They arrive in Gore on Sunday 17 November for a community event, before riding to Waihopai, Invercargill to meet their hosts, Southland Respect Network for a meal together.

Monday 18 November will be a very busy day for them as they start with an early breakfast at Murihiku Marae followed by visits to Aurora College, James Hargest College and Otatara School, speaking to students and staff.

They will tell their stories about the issues and their life experiences around domestic abuse, in order to raise awareness of where to get help and decrease its prevalence across our communities.

The public are welcome to join them at South City for a free BBQ from 12.45 to 1.30 in the courtyard beside The Pantry.

Hosted by South Centre and South Alive, people can mix and mingle with the riders, discussing the issues and ways forward.

Generous sponsorship by Honda Southland and Ellis Road New World is appreciated, enabling this event to occur.

After other commitments into the evening, they will leave Murihiku Southland on Tuesday morning to travel north, stopping at many venues on the way, spreading their philosophy and kaupapa about stopping violence.

They will arrive in Ōtautahi Christchurch in time for the International White Ribbon day on Monday 25 November, raising awareness of stopping violence in all aspects of society, but with a special focus on domestic abuse.
