Top tennis seeds Rubin Statham and Finn Tearney will be playing for the championship tomorrow, following the conclusion of day one of the Distinction Hotels Te Anau Tennis Invitational.

Statham is a five-time winner (and current champion) and ranked number one in the country, while the experienced Tearney has played every tournament for the past 9 years.

In near perfect conditions eight players put on powerful performances in front of a large and supportive crowd.

One of the spectators enjoying day one of the tennis was Aucklander Rosie Wickham.

Wickham has attended the event for the previous 4 years. She said she loved it.

It was relaxing and fun and she always stayed till the very end to watch the finals, she said.

Club president Greg Sheppard said he was really happy with the day and estimated that over 350 people had attended.

Sheppard however admitted that he hadn't known how the day would go after the court had been wet in the morning.

But just 10 minutes before the start it had dried. It was a fluke he said.

Tomorrows games will also see 18 year old Corban Crowther and 24 year old Connor Heaps playing off for 3rd and 4th, Rob Reynolds and Francisco Mendieta playing for 5th and 6th while Sky Lovill and Alex Klintcharov will battle it out for 7th and 8th places.
