Te Anau GP Dr Paula King has this morning posted on a community Facebook page that the Fiordland Medical Practice had received confirmation of a second case of COVID-19 within the Te Anau Basin.
"This case also had direct contact with the World Hereford Conference, and this does not mean that we have community transmission. They are recovering well at home, and had already been self isolating," she says.
"I trust everyone is staying safe and staying home, look out for each other and please do contact us if you have any concerns about your physical or mental health. We can offer telephone consultations and triage, and will continue to arrange face to face consultations whenever they are needed."
Dr King also took the opportunity pay a public thank you to the practice's front line reception and nursing staff, in addition to the management and medical staff.
"Everyone has stepped up in the current crisis, and quickly adapted, finding new ways to work in an ever changing and very challenging time. Well done everyone, your hard work is appreciated," she says.
The Fiordland case is not likely to show up in official figures until released by the Ministry of Health later today.
