Super Saturday a success in the south

The Super Saturday Covid-19 vaccination campaign successfully rolled out throughout New Zealand today, achieving a provisional total of 129,995 vaccinations by 10pm.

This convincingly beat the government's well publicised 100,000 target.

9,696 vaccinations were given at clinics across the Southern (District Health Board) region, with several Southland clinics commenting on the good turnout of younger people and first timers.

Ngā Kete Matauranga Pounamu Trust's clinic at the Pacific Island Advisory & Cultural Trust saw 180 vaccinations completed.

Chief executive Tracey Wright said they had a fantastic community day, with a great turnout by Māori and Pacifica, including good numbers of rangatahi coming through. We had our kaumatua ukelele (group) supporting with great Māori music and some good kai was supplied as well, she said.

Gore Health's business manager Rhonda Reid said around 360 people were vaccinated at Gore's 3 clinics today.

Gore Health's clinic attracted around 80 people including up to 70% first timers. She also commented on numbers of young people turning out.

60 - 70 people attended the Super Saturday clinic held at Otautau Medical Centre, with up to 50% being younger people, practice manager Natalie Carran said.

Following today's campaign Gore Health will have Covid vaccinations available 4 days a week, while from next week Otautau will trial having Covid vaccines available every day. They will also be running a special evening clinic on Thursday evening (28 Oct).

And as well as its regular clinics, Ngā Kete Matauranga Pounamu Trust will be holding a special vaccination clinic in Te Anau between 10am - 12,30pm on Saturday 23 October, as part of its annual Ki Utu Ki Tai Waka Challenge.
