Te Anau has been buffeted by strong winds overnight, bringing down trees and upending rubbish bins.
This follows Emergency Management Southland's (EMS) severe weather warning issued yesterday (19 Dec) for both Fiordland and Southland.

The Orange level warning included a strong wind warning in place for Fiordland and Southland, as well as a heavy rain warning for Fiordland.
EMS advise between 10am and 6pm today (20th Dec) to expect 60 to 90mm of rain north of Doubtful Sound with peak rates of between 20 - 30mm/h.
Southland and Fiordland are currently under a Orange level weather warning.
The warnings will remain in effect until late Tuesday evening.
