More than 1000 children from Invercargill and Bluff are experiencing Sport Southland’s HPE (Health and Physical Education) Day today and tomorrow.

Four sessions have scheduled for the ILT Stadium Southland, with the children getting an opportunity to experience a wide range of sports and activities.

Sport Southland’s Made to Move team are hosting the event, which showcases the extensive physical activity opportunities available in the community.

More than a dozen providers are at the show, with children able to choose from 15 activities and take part on their own terms.

They include Rugby Southland modified games, traditional Māori games, pickleball and the highly-popular free play area.

Plans are underway to hold a similar Made to Move event in Gore later this year.

Children are being encouraged to continue with the opportunities they enjoy, so participation is not intended as a one-off event, Sport Southland communications and marketing manager Nathan Burdon said.

Session times: 9.30am-11.45am, 12.45pm-2.30pm
