Southland community leader Cathie Cotter has been appointed as a member of the National Council of Rural Support Trusts (RST).
Cathie replaces Gavan Herlihy from the Otago Rural Support Trust. Her term is for two years.
Southland Rural Support Coordinator Lindsay Wright said Cathie's appointment recognised the attributes Cathie brought to the Rural Support Trust organisation both in Southland and nationwide.

“Cathie is extremely passionate about the rural sector and people’s welfare. She is a great team leader and will bring a fresh skill set and life experiences to the National Council table,” Lindsay said.
The National Council of Rural Support Trusts represents all the Rural Support Trusts.
It was established in mid-2017 and is structured as a charitable trust which is responsible to the 14 regional trusts.
The National Council provides a single point of contact for other national organisations and the Government, and assists the regional trusts share resources and experience.

The National Council meets once a year with the 14 trusts operating independently in their areas and staffed by local people.
The Southland Rural Support Trust assists rural individuals and their families to get back on their feet following challenging circumstances such as financial, personal, or climatic adverse events.
The trust is part of a nation-wide network which is linked into local rural networks, as well as Civil Defence, Work and Income, and rural professionals.
