The strong SW flow over New Zealand persists well into next week, but the coldest air moves east of the country during Monday with rising snow levels.
Milford Road
Due to snow conditions, the road is currently closed, with reopening approx 10am after snow & ice clearing.
Snow showers are forecast all day between Te Anau and the Divide and some delays are possible with snow ploughs operating.
Drive with caution. An overnight closure is likely again tonight from 4.30pm.
SH94 Clinton to Mataura
Due to ice conditions, State Highway 93 from Clinton to Mataura is closed. Please consider delaying your journey or using an alternative route.
SH96 Ohai to Winton
Due to snow and ice conditions, road users are advised to take extra care.

Today
Strong SW winds continue all day and through tonight with widespread showers and further snow to 200-300m in many areas. The exception looks like the Te Anau basin, with showers quite infrequent west and immediately north of the Takitimu Range.
Monday 3rd
Cold showery weather, strong SW winds continue, snow level expected to rise to 700m during the day
Tuesday 4th
Fresh coastal SW winds slowly easing, showers lighter and mostly south of a line Otautau to Gore. Frosts well inland, snow level 900m
Wednesday 5th
Moderate SW winds look set to die away very slowly, with cloud and a few light showers persisting along the coast and into eastern Southland. Frost inland with icy conditions on wet road areas.
Thursday 6th
A like cloudy on the south coast, isolated showers clearing by evening. Frosty again at night
Outlook
Fine and frosty on Friday, scattered rain possible next weekend.
