Southland MPs pick up new roles in National Party reshuffle

Both Southland opposition MPs feature in the latest National Party reshuffle announced today (19 Jan).


Penny Simmonds, MP for Invercargill, now at number 20 on the National Party's list, picks up Workforce Planning, Early Childhood Education, Associate Education, Associate Social Development & Employment, while continuing to retain her Tertiary Education and Skills portfolio.


She however loses her previous roles as Spokesperson for Disability Issues, Associate Spokesperson for Agriculture and Associate Spokesperson for Transport.



Joseph Mooney, MP for Southland, while not allocated a list position, does pick up the Forestry portfolio and retains his position as opposition spokesperson for Treaty Negotiations, Space, and associate spokesperson for both Tourism and Agriculture.


He loses this Water portfolio.
