Six active COVID-19 cases remain in SDHB area

There are now just six active cases of COVID-19 in the Southern District Health Board region – 206 having recovered and two died.

The most recent case in the Southern district was reported on April 18. Since then there have been no new cases in the district.

Nationally there have been four new cases reported over the weekend.

Yesterday there was one confirmed case and one probable case. Both were linked to the St Margaret’s Hospital and Rest Home in Auckland, the confirmed case being a household contact of a previously confirmed case.

Today two more new cases were confirmed – one a household contact of a confirmed case linked to the St Margaret’s cluster in Auckland and the other a person who has travelled back from overseas.

This brings New Zealand’s combined total of confirmed and probable COVID-19 cases to 1494 – made up of 1144 confirmed cases and 350 probable cases.

Ninety-two percent of all New Zealand’s confirmed and probable cases – 1371 people – are considered to have recovered.

There are two people in hospital with COVID-19 – one each in Middlemore and North Shore hospitals. Neither is in intensive care.

The number of confirmed cases worldwide reported to the World Health Organisation is now 3,855,788. There have been 265,862 deaths.
