Shooting at Kapuka last night

A man has been arrested and a person taken to hospital after a firearms incident at Kapuka last night (26 May).


Emergency services were alerted to the incident at around 10.20pm last night.


Police deployed a Armed Offenders Squad who subsquently arrested a man shortly afterwards.



One person received a gunshot wound to the leg and was taken to Southland Hospital where they are undergoing treatment for non-life threatening injuries. 


Police are remaining at the address while a scene examination takes place.


A 34-year-old man is due to appear in Invercargill District Court today, charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.



The offender and the victim are known to each other and Police are not seeking anyone else in relation to the incident.


Police said inquiries into the matter were ongoing.
