Flooding at Pleasant Flat, at State Highway 6/Haast Pass Highway.

SH1 Waipahi highway between Gore and McNab is now closed due to fallen trees. 

Please use alternative route if travel is essential. 

Further trees are coming down at Arthurton so please travel with extreme care.

Due to powerlines coming down in the winds, SH1 Bluff highway is now closed at Omaui Road. 

All other road closures remain in place for now.

The strong winds and rain have arrived in Southland, and we currently have powerlines down on SH96 between Mataura and Te Tipua. 

SH96 Glencoe highway is closed from Mataura to Hedgehope. Access for residents as far as Downs North Road and Terrace Road.

Please avoid the area unless absolutely necessary.

We also have significant flooding on SH6 south of Kingston. This is passable, but please take extra care. 

Our colleagues tell us that there is also flooding between Kingston and the Devil’s Staircase, so please only travel if necessary.

An update will follow once we know a likely time for reopening SH96, or an update on the flooding on SH6.
