Emergency Management Southland has issued a Severe Weather Warning for Fiordland.

They advise a slow moving front preceded by a strong and moist north to northwest flow is expected to move northwards across the lower South Island on Sunday and Monday.

The front is forecast to deliver heavy rain and possible severe gale north to northwesterlies to parts of the lower South Island.

Area: Fiordland about and north of Doubtful Sound

Valid: 6:00am Sunday to 6:00pm Sunday

Expect 100 to 130 mm of rain. Peak rates of 15 to 25 mm/h from late Sunday morning.
