A severe weather warning has been issued for Fiordland.

The orange alert is for Fiordland about and north of Doubtful Sound, and is expected to last from 8pm on Saturday till 2pm on Sunday.

This is a result of a front moving north over the South Island during the weekend.

It is expected to deliver between 90 and 120mm of rain, with intensities possible of up to 15-25mm per hour at times.
