Seven active COVID-19 cases left in Southern region

Two more people in the Southern District Health Board region have now recovered from COVID-19, leaving just seven active cases from a total of 216 reported.


Nationally there were two more cases confirmed today, however the total number of confirmed and probable cases rose by just one to 1490 because one of the now confirmed cases was previous classified as probably.


There have been 1141 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in New Zealand. Twenty-one people have died, however 90% of all probably and confirmed cases are now reported to have recovered – 15 more people than reported yesterday.



There are three people in hospital in the North Island, none of them in intensive care.


A record number of 7,812 tests were carried out yesterday, bringing the total number of tests completed to date to 175,835. This equates to 3.5% of the population and puts New Zealand in the top 20 countries per capita for testing.


More than 3.5 million cases of COVID-19 and 250,000 deaths have now been reported to the World Health Organisation. The total numbers are: 3,672,238 confirmed cases(up 83,465 in the previous 24 hours) and 254,045 deaths (up 6539 in the previous 24 hours).
