UPDATE: One person has died following a fatal crash near Edendale

A serious crash involving a truck and a car just after 10pm last night (9 Sept) has closed State Highway 1 at Edendale near the intersection with Downs Road South.

One of the vehicles has gone on to hit a house.

Police said emergency services were called to the collision about 10.20pm.

State Highway 1 remains closed between Downs Road South and Homestead Road.

Diversions are in place with an alternative route as follows:

Northbound traffic use SH98 from Dacre to Rakahouka. Turn right onto Rakahouka-Hedgehope Road, continuing on to Hedgehope. At SH96, turn right and continue onto Mataura. Turn left, returning to SH1.

The Serious Crash Unit and Commercial Vehicle Safety Team have been notified.
