A Southland Catchment Group Christmas Competition is lighting up the region for the second year with record entries spreading the festive cheer.
Thriving Southland senior catchment co-ordinator Rachael Halder said everyone in Southland was able to enjoy the amazing Christmas displays being created.
“It’s a great opportunity for people to check out the displays around Southland, and there’s still time to enter,” she said.

The friendly competition was a great example of Southland’s catchment group communities connecting with and celebrating their communities, Halder said.
“The incredible range of displays showcase how fantastic Southland farmers are at embracing the fun when life is a bit serious.”
“Let’s see your jolly creations and show some festive cheer. People can enter as a catchment group, business, individual, farm, property or whomever. Whether it’s bales painted bright, pallets all lined in a row, or wherever your imagination takes you, we can’t wait to see your rural Christmas display.”
The competition is based on last years successful inaugural competition run by the Hedgehope Makarewa, Waihopai, Gore and Mid Aparima Catchment Groups.
There are prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd, a people’s choice award, as well as spot prizes.
