Roadworks Update 3/3/23

Please see below the areas on state highways in Southland where Highways South or contractors are likely to be working over the next week (3/3/23 to 10/3/23) and where you may experience delays to your journeys.

These works are all weather dependent so start dates or changes should be expected in poor weather.

Please note:

**The slip-lane from SH6 North Road onto SH99 Wallacetown Lorneville highway will be closed from Sunday night through to Thursday morning. Traffic will use the roundabout to exit west onto SH99 Wallacetown Lorneville highway

Highways South work with traffic management in place next week

  • SH1 Pukerau, temporary traffic lights and temporary speed limit for pavement work
  • SH6 North Road between West Plains Road and Lorneville roundabout, road closure and detour for resurfacing 6pm – 6am nightly.
  • Detour: Flora Road East/Mill Road North/Bainfield Road or Steel Road/West Plains Road; HPMV detour: Flora Road East/Mill Road North/SH1 East Road or Steel Road/West Plains Road
  • SH6 Lorneville roundabout, slip lane heading onto SH99 closed Sunday to Thursday, reopening Thursday morning
  • SH93 multiple locations on Old Coach Road near Clinton, temporary traffic lights and temporary speed limit for pavement work
  • SH94, Croydon, traffic lights and temporary speed limit for pavement renewal

* Roadmarking taking place across the network using mobile traffic management, so should not be disruptive.

  • SH1, Tay St Hawthorndale Invercargill, lane drop and temporary speed limit
  • SH1 East Gore, stop/go and temporary speed limit
  • SH6, Dee St Invercargill at the Esk St intersection, lane drop of north-bound lane and temporary speed limit
  • SH6, Dee St Gladstone, lane drop and temporary speed limit
  • SH6, Winton-Lorneville highway near Lorneville roundabout, lane drop and speed restriction
  • SH93 Kaiwera, stop/go and temporary speed limit

*Please note that due to the heavy vehicle detour in Gore being closed for the replacement of a wastewater pipeline over the next three weeks, road users should expect an increase of heavy traffic on SH1/Main St Gore.

**Upcoming works/events

  • 14 March, SH94 Balfour, resurfacing

Stop/go and side road access restrictions

  • 14th March to mid-April, SH6/Great North Road, Winton resurfacing

This link shows worksites which have potential restrictions on freight - https://www.nzta.govt.nz/commercial-driving/trucks-and-tow-trucks/potential-restrictions-affecting-freight/. Thanks for slowing down at these worksites for the sake of our crews and the repairs to the highways.
