REVIEW: Bluff or Bust - a road trip full of twists & turnsBluff or Bust - a bus trip with a difference, this not-to-be-missed production by the Bluff Drama Club runs from the 2-5 October. Photo: Supplied

Sit back and enjoy a delicious dinner, take a break to devour a scrumptious dessert, grab your drinks, and find a seat because the show is about to start!

Board the bus and embark on a journey with the Bluff Drama Club (BDC) as they navigate the twists and turns on the road to Bluff!

You might need a bucket—just in case—but is that for the winding road or a big night out?

Join Johnny and Jenny (played by Stephen Wilcox and Angela Cooper) as the timing perfectly aligns for their long-awaited holiday back to Jenny’s home for the Bluff Oyster Festival.

As it turns out, they aren’t the only ones eager to make the trip to the deep south. In their quest to get out of work, even calling in sick, Jonny and Jenny are joined by an enthusiastic and diverse group of travellers, which includes a rather charming Rick, aka Alan (played by… well, that’s a secret, but it's a cameo from a past BDC performer).

We all love a good skit during the show—the kind that has you laughing until your sides hurt. Big Will and Little Willy (Julie Manson and Paul Bremer) have something lined up that is "over the hills and far away," much like the snow-capped peaks around Murihiku this week. But that’s not all; Fred (Paul Bremer) tackles a challenging monologue based on a Johnny Cash classic.

The BDC cast has created an astonishing show that captures the adventures of some very typical Kiwis.

They’ve carefully curated a fantastic road trip playlist that will have your toes tapping and your head nodding—and I’m sure you’ll want to sing along at some point!

As always, BDC has packed in powerhouse performances and choreography, showcasing the incredible talent from Bluff and Invercargill. Jorja Glassey steps onto the stage as Lucy when they arrive in Taranaki, and while stuck in the middle of nowhere, Audrey (played by Alisha-May Perkins) reminds us that we can lean on each other.

Your in for a treat when it comes to the stage production on set, keep an eye out for the tech set if you will, the stage comes to life with the work from Malcom Macdonald and the team behind the scenes.

This is yet another show the Bluff Drama Club can be proud of, as it incorporates everyday life and transforms it into an adventure of a lifetime for some characters. For some, it’s their first visit to Bluff; for others, it’s a chance to unwind, relax, and let loose—why not have a party?
