Flower lovers and designers in Southland are in for a treat next month as international designer Mark Pampling hosts a special demonstration in Winton.
The event, called “Irregular Moments”, is being hosted by the Central Southland Floral Art Club and will have the Australian designer share his knowledge with participants as well as present a public demonstration.
Central Southland Floral Art Club president Jenny Butler said securing Mr Pampling was a coup for the club.
"This is pretty big for a small club like Central Southland. We've got floral art society members coming in from Auckland and Canterbury coming down to see him. It is a big thing. He demonstrates all over the world and we're very fortunate to be able to get him in Winton."
Mrs Butler said they were able to secure Mr Pampling's visit through connections via club members who invited him to come.
Mr Pampling is regarded as one of Australia’s foremost contemporary floral designers, with a variety of roles in the floral sector including president of Interflora Australia, co-owner of a northern New South Wales florist as well as being a floral demonstrator, accredited floristry judge and TAFE teacher.
His career has taken him right across the world and he is a multiple winner of the prestigious Interflora Australia Cup as well as receiving numerous Gold Awards, Best in Show, Design Innovation Awards and Creativity Awards at a variety of international showcases.
He is a regular contributor to floral design publications including the acclaimed International Floral Art, UK-based Fusion Flower magazine and he recently became a member of the elite FLOOS team which serves as an online educational website for florists and floral designers.
During the public demonstration Mr Pampling will showcase his unique ways of using local botanical materials in his presentations and showing his unique "structural approach" to designing, with a focus on using plant material to create the structures.
The day following the demonstration, club members and floral designers from around the South Island will attend two workshops tutored by Mr Pampling.
The demonstration takes place at the Central Southland Presbyterian Church complex in Winton August 1 at 5.30pm.
Tickets are $45 and are available by calling Rhonda Hall on (03) 236-7157.
