The Invercargill City Council has invited the public to a meeting to discuss future options of the water ski area at Sandy Point, so it continues to be safe.
Interim parks and recreation manager Michele Frey said the area had previously been leased, and the meeting was being called to understand whether there was any interest from businesses, community groups, or organisations in helping maintain the boat ramp and building.
"We need to better understand who might be willing to continue to commit to looking after the area, or whether we need to explore other options,” Ms Frey said.

The water ski area is immediately next to the flying fox and playground. The well-loved playground would continue to be maintained by council staff.
“However, we do need to consider options for the building and boat ramp to make sure they continue to be safe,” Ms Frey said.
The public meeting will be held at the Oreti Links Building, at the end of Links Road, on Monday, 23 November at 6pm.
