WHATS HAPPENING

Well it is August and it almost seems spring like here in Invercargill.

The temperatures are a couple of degrees higher and the daylight hours are slowly getting longer.

There are even a few early tell tale signs that spring is on the way!!!!!

The 1st of some bulbs are peeping through and there are also some shrubs / trees starting to flower.

The witchazels especially are showing colour.

Our asparagus crowns have arrived in. 3 different varieties and 5 crowns per bag for $11.99.

Still some good yams and garlic ready to be planted now. You will have to be quick tho.

Plenty of seed potatoes available for the early crops. We also have a range (packed in 500gm bags) of the Maori varieties and pink fir apple which is a yam type of potato.

Best flower bulbs at the moment are the Lillies. A great range of colours. Planted now will flower in summer.

Best colour would have to be the polyanthus, ericas, & azaleas. Boronias are in bud and the winter roses are in full colour!!

Seed racks are filling up. We have a few new varieties to try this year as well so come in and check it out. Microgreens are very popular.

Strawberries are starting to break into leaf. We have some plants with good roots ready to be planted and these will crop at christmas time.

Most of our fruit trees are here now. Bring your trailor in and grab a few. Really good looking specimens.

Fertilizer is in big demand as most gardeners are starting to think about preparing their gardens for the season. We sell our own brand of fertilizers, potting mixes, compost, seeds ect to name a few. Ask for the DIACK brand and save a few dollars.

Vege plants are looking great. Plenty to choose from. They are all grown on site as are our flowers and herbs.

Feeding the wild birds has been very very popular this winter. We have a wide range of bird feeders and food to feed the hungriest of birds!!

WHAT YOU SHOULD BE DOING - GETTING READY FOR SPRING.

Its just around the corner. We can help with any advise you may need. Just come in and see us any time any day.

Get your compost bins emptied onto your garden beds now to give things a chance to dry out.

Maybe it is time to invest in a raised garden bed. Stock beds start at $249.99 but we can make to measure.

Our $25 tree sale is still on. Still quite a bit of stock to choose from at both shops...

Don't forget to bring in your own bags or boxes. Or purchase one of our baskets for $5.00.. Renew & recycle. Yours to keep for future purchases.

PRODUCT - Wallys TERRACIN Soil Biocide FOR SOIL PATHOGEN (Diseases) SUPPRESSION

‘What can I use to sterilise the soil in my glasshouse?’

We like the organic products that Wally Richards has. In your case we would recommend an organic product called Terracin to suppress pathogens in the soil, followed by Mycorrcin three weeks later.

Soil pests can be controlled with Neem Granules.

PET PRODUCT - Fresh & Clear Drinking Fountain

Catit

Provides your cat with a continuous indoor source of fresh-tasting, cool, filtered water that will encourage your pet to drink more water. Encouraging your cat to drink more water helps ensure proper kidney function, helping to prevent crystal formation that can lead to urinary diseases.

Dogit

Like people, pets require water for good health. The dogit design fresh & clear drinking fountain responds to your pets need for a continuous supply of fresh and clean water. The re-circulating water flow eliminates stale, stagnant water to provide fresh-tasting, cool filtered water with a multitude of inherent health benefits. The fountain is elevated to provide a better dinking position-ideal for large breeds, older dogs or dogs with arthritis, muscle and joint problems. Encouraging your pet to drink more water helps ensure proper kidney function.

FACT

There are trees that can grow more than one kind of fruit, and they're called fruit salad trees.

Here's the thing: fruit salad trees are real. ...

Citrus salad trees offer a winter and summer orange, mandarins, lemons, limes, grapefruits, tangelos and pomelos. Multi-apple trees boast between two and four different kinds of apples and multi-nashi trees produce between two and four different kinds of Asian pears

Fruit Salad Trees grow up to six different types of fruit all on the one tree. They are multi-grafted trees with different fruits from the same family grafted together on the one tree. All the fruits retain their own characteristics like flavour, appearance and ripening times.
