Police seek information

Police are appealing for witnesses and more information around two separate vehicle incidents in Riverton and Te Anau this month.

Southland police say a man was walking west along Palmerston Street around 2am on Saturday, April 6 when he was hit by a vehicle while crossing the road outside Hammer Hardware.

The man suffered serious injuries as a result, and police are appealing for information from anyone who was in the area at the time.

Police ask that anyone with information contact Riverton Police on 03 2347070. Information can also be provided anonymously to the Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111.

Last week (April 12), a blue Subaru station wagon was involved in a crash on the Milford Road near Te Anau Downs around 3pm, when the driver had to take evasive action to avoid a campervan, believed to be on the incorrect side of the road when going around a bend.

The Subaru was travelling south towards Te Anau, with the campervan travelling north toward Milford Sound.

Police would like to hear from the driver or occupants of the campervan or any one that witnessed the crash or may have been in the area at the time.

The campervan was described as a large white camper van, possibly a KEA brand.

Anyone with information should contact Senior Constable Stu Wright at the Te Anau Police Station on 03 249 7600 or via email on [email protected]
