Southlanders are being urged to be alert and stay safe after a man rammed a police car and stole two police-issued Glock pistols during an incident in Gore last night.

Police had attempted to stop a vehicle shortly before midnight when the driver rammed the patrol car then fled on foot. Police chased, also on foot.

The man then stole the patrol car and rammed another police car before abandoning the vehicle a short while later. Two Glock pistols were stolen from the vehicle.

The offender is still being actively sought by police.

Police have pursed another vehicle, believed to have been driven by the same man, through the Ferndale area but he has not yet been located.
